DOTILISM
Dotilism is not to be confused with pointillism. While similar the objectives are quite different.
Pointillism uses small strokes or dots that blend together to form an image from a distance. Example
Dotilism uses distinct dots placed next to each other to form an image. The magic is in the negative space between each individual dot as demonstrated.
What you are looking at is the bottom detail of the gallery wrapped canvas used for “Spanish Moss “.
